A Simple Resolution is a special document issued by the one or both Chambers of Congress and can recognize and officiate various commemorative days, laws, and stances on certain issues. Simple resolutions do not require the approval of the other house nor the signature of the president, and they do not have the force of law.
A Joint Resolution, however, is agreed upon by both chambers and can implicate joint resolution requires the approval of both Chambers in identical form and the president’s signature to become law. There is no real difference between a joint resolution and a bill.
2020 Goals in Congress
In the past, we have only ever been issued Simple Resolutions in each Chamber of Congress. It is our hope to pursue a American Eagle Day “Joint Resolution” between both Chambers of Congress. Once this is achieved, American Eagle Day will have an official, annual presence among commemorative celebratory days in the United States.
In 2011, the House passed a rule that would disallow the passing of any commemorative resolution, such as American Eagle Day. Before a Joint Resolution can be achieved, we need to convince House leadership to reconsider this ban in regards to American Eagle Day. Get Started!

Past American Eagle Day Resolution Success
In the United States Senate: On May 1, 2007, the United States Senate unanimously passed a special resolution naming June 20, 2007 “American Eagle Day.” Simple Resolutions for American Eagle Day in the Senate were passed again in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, & 2019.
In the United States House of Representatives: A resolution was also unanimously approved by the United States House of Representatives on June 5, 2007.
