Juvenile eagle, Destiny, was sighted in Ohio.

Juvenile eagle, ‘Destiny,’ released August 2, 2013, from AEF’s hack tower on Douglas Lake in East Tennessee, was sighted in Ohio.

On August 2, 2013, ‘Destiny ‘and ‘Thunderbird,’ offspring of non-releasable Bald Eagles ‘Independence’ and ‘Franklin,’ fledged from the American Eagle Foundation hack tower on Douglas Lake in East Tennessee.

They had both been fitted with transmitters, but we lost track of both eagles when the transmitters either failed or were lost. The last recorded GPS positions showed Thunderbird near Lake Huron, while Destiny’s last GPS coordinates placed her in Ohio.

Two separate searches were conducted for Thunderbird near Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron in the area where her GPS coordinates were last noted, but the efforts were unsuccessful.

We received an email on April 13, 2014 from Thomas Bower with wonderful news. He had spotted Destiny (Patagial tag L3) soaring above Deer Creek State Park Golf Course area in Ohio.

Several photos were included, clearly showing Destiny’s identifying Patagial Tag on her left wing.

We are so happy to report this very exciting news!
