Washington D.C. is joining the effort to establish a national American Eagle day.
On Thursday, D.C. Council member Mary Cheh announced her plans to introduce legislation to make June 20th National American Eagle Day in the District.
Cheh was joined by representatives from the District Department of the Environment, the American Eagle Foundation, and the Earth Conservation Corps, a volunteer organization which works to clean up the Anacostia River.
The star of the show was ‘Challenger,’ a 26-year-old Bald Eagle from the American Eagle Foundation. Challenger has become famous for his free flying performances at many major sporting events, including a recent appearance at the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Finals.
If Cheh’s resolution were to pass, the District of Columbia would join 43 other states in declaring a National American Eagle Day.
